Monosaccharide

Monomers of Carbohydrates

Monosaccharide

Functional Group: OH (hydroxyl)

  • Distinguished by # of Carbon and place of Carbonyl group
  • Main source of fuel for Cellular Respiration
  • Carbon skeletons are raw material to produce other macromolecules
  • Monosaccharides: (Isomers)
Isomers are compounds containing same number of Atoms. In monosaccharides, they are formed by 6Carbons, 12Hydrogens and 6Oxygens
  • Glucose
  • Fructose
  • Galactose

  • Fructose and Galactose are isomers of glucose, they will be converted to Glucose before cellular respiration to enter Glycolysis.
